We truly loved it! Your home, the location, everything was incredible. I just wish we could’ve stayed longer.
We did not try to go to Berchtsgaden. I have heard through the social grapevine that one of the couples that went the weekend prior went & the place had opened early. I guess since the snow was already almost completely melted & the weather was incredible. It was warmer there than where we live!
Everything was great. The beds are extremely comfortable, we loved the entertainment center & the kitchen was perfect. The home is unbelievable!! The folks you have working for you are the nicest people — we had a wonderful vacation & staying at your home was a highlight of the trip.
We’re already trying to figure out when we could go down again with some of our friends. I hope we get an opportunity to stay again before we leave Germany.
Thanks again!!

Quiet, relaxing mountain setting. House old and charming, but had everything we needed… Able to walk to the local bakery and market, while the kids were hiking on the mountain ruins. Ate dinner at the nature restaurant and preserve on the hill. Kids fed the deer and rabbits. A 20 minute hike from the house. The food is not the best, but the experience and view are amazing!!! An easy 20 minute drive into Salzburg and down to the Salt Mines! Overall, a great weekend!!

Our family (2 grandparents, 1 mom, 3 kids, & 1 dad) sneaked away for a few days to hit the sites in Salzburg. We found Stephan’s house and knew it was where we wanted to stay. I spoke with Stephan several times and he gave us some great recommendations for the area. The house is HUGE and old (800+ years). The two girls loved having their own “apartment” and our son thought the loft was perfect. When we arrived the house was warm and Lassim (a fantastic hausmeister) had fires going in the stoves. The house’s location is great…a gas station nearby, a bakery and grocery within and even castle ruins walking distance. Being literally on the border of Austria and Germany, it’s fun to walk from country to country and a good photo op at the “Welcome to Germany” sign. WIthin 20-30 minutes drive are all the sites of Salzburg (recommended by Stephan and now me have a moderately priced meal at the Elefant Restaurant in Salzburg’s walking district), several salt mine tours, and castles and churches galore. Once you’re worn out from all the travel, head back to the house and have a home cooked meal or relax with a movie in the family room. The house’s two kitchens have all the supplies you’ll need to cook (pots, pans, dishes, and even spices and oils). Linens and towels were bountiful. If you bring your computer, the house has free WI-FI throughout (very rare in Europe). There are also about 30 dvd’s and various books in the house. (If you have kids and plan to watch a movie or two, I recommend you bring kid friendly titles. Most are rated PG-13+. Also, make sure your dvd’s are formatted for the European region.) Enjoy the jacuzzi tub, the scenery, and the neighborhood. For the size and location, this house is one of the best deals around.

14 of my family and friends shared a wonderful holiday at Sonnenlehen. The house is truly something special with real character and charm – and the facilities all in excellent working order! The location is truly perfect for those wanting a getaway with access to what is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, mountains, lakes and genuine peace and quiet. A walk from the back door takes you into the foothills of the Untersberg and truly spectacular views. A half hour drive takes you to Lake Konigsee – dramatic and beautiful complete with glacier and cable car. The 180 bus takes you into Salzburg, just outside the Mirabel Palace in about 40 mins, and a short stroll over the Salzach and you are in the haart of the city with it’s elegant squares, café’s, market, castle and cathedrals – not forgetting Mozarts Birthplace.
For large parties this place is fantastic – the supermarket in the village, bakers, butchers and gasthaus are all excellent. We had a specially baked Sachertorte which was simply delicious.
We are already planning a return visit!

We had the most amazing time at Sonnenlehen. The house is huge and has lots of history within it’s walls.
We had the top apartment and the kitchen was very well equipped. Our lovely hosts left us a bottle of wine to say thank you for our visit.
The location was perfect for walking in the mountains around Salzburg. The house is also on a 15 min walk from the Germany border which gave us plenty of places to explore. Getting into Salzburg was very easy as it was not far from a frequent bus route.
For entertainment in the evenings the apartment had a lovely lounge with a huge flat screen TV and DVD player (with a selection of DVDs to choose from).
The bathroom had an excellent shower and large bath with jacuzzi style setting to relax after our days of sightseeing.
We plan to return to Sonnenlehen next time we are in Austria.

Sonnenlehen is situated just below the Austro-Bavarian Alps and is a haven nestled between green meadows, forests, mountains and other elegant Austrian villas.
We had not fully realised the beauty of the location until we arrived but then instantly feel in love with the house and region.
The house, and living areas were very spacious, lovingly decorated and cared for which maintained the feeling of it’s historic past. It was almost like staying in a (living) heritage museum with marvelous antiques and relics from it’s past. Large grounds surround the house so the views out the window were lush and green. This all added to the overall ambiance of this special estate.
For the traveler, every required facility was considered and we immediately felt right at home. After 5 nights there we were very sad to leave!
If you are looking to stay somewhere which provides easy access to famous Salzburg but with the benefits of the being able to walk (within 10 minutes) into Germany, discover mountain walks and enjoy the grandeur of the Alps – then I can only recommend staying at Sonnenlehen.
Thanks Stephan, you were the perfect host
