Salzburg Austria
The cities official site in English salzburg.at/en.html. As with most things in our area there are a lot of links to other important regional sites from there.
The cities main News paper Salzburger Nachrichten: www.salzburg.com/homepage/. Unfortunately for those of you that are language challenged this site is available only in German. If you use Google chrome as your browser (something we do recommend)you can get automatic translation of the site.
The cities official radio station: salzburg.orf.at/ . This site again is in German. There is a live Radio Salzburg link on the upper right side of the home page if you would like to listen to the station while you browse. This site is a great site for tips on things to visit from locals www.visit-salzburg.net/general-info.htm
There is an alternative radio station that does broadcast a lot in English including hourly news most hours in English for all of Austria. fm4.orf.at/. FM4 has awesome house and lounge broadcasts on most weekend nights. This last point has almost nothing to do with Salzburg but is here as a cool little addition.

Berchtsgadener Land

The region that encompasses all of the great things to do on the Bavarian side of our border is called Berchtsgadener land. The official site in English for the region is www.berchtesgadener-land.info/
Berchtsgadener Land has two major attractions Koenigssee and Eagles Nest.
Koenigssee is a really great place to go: www.berchtesgadener-land.info/

Berchtsgaden
Berchtsgaden is the city that we get the most requests for after Salzburg and mostly from our American guests. It is about 20 km from our house by car but it is on the same mountain we are on. For those of you that like to walk it is only about 4 to 8 km walk over the mountain. The official site for Berchtsgaden in English is www.berchtesgaden.de/en/startseite.html. Berchtsgaden is an awesome place. Unfortunately it was made most famous by the one we shall not name. Schicklgruber for those of you from the UK. The city has some wonderful facilities left behind by the American occupation forces now run by the Intercontinental Hotel chain. It also has lots of great recreational facilities and some stunning vistas.

Bad Reichenhal
Bad Reichenhal often gets overlooked by people visiting our house. It is only 6 km from the house and many of us in our family walk there. There is regular bus service to Bad Reichenhal from the same bus stops that take you into Salzburg. Bad Reichenhal has a world class spa that has recieved wonderful reviews from guests, a Casino, a beer hall and a good pedestrian zone. Cafe Reber is headquartered here and one of the Moazrt Kugel factories is just outside of town.
Bad Reichenhal’s official website is: www.stadt-bad-reichenhall.de/de/home/. This site is rather dry. It tends to be the political organ of the town administration but you can find gems of what to do further down. It also is in German.

Grossgmain
Haus Sonnenlehen is in Grossgmain. Grossgmain is the larger part of the old village of Gmain. Gmain was broken up along the Weissbach by the american occupying forces after WWII into Grossgmain (the Austrian part) and Bayerisch Gmain (the German/Bavarian part). Since 2000 the border has been taken down and we are more and more becoming the one village we should be without synthetic borders created by others. The train station for our village is in Bayerisch Gmain.
The official site for Grossgmain is www.grossgmain.info/de/home/ It is a good little site but not visited enough. The site theoretically has a place to change the languages into English and Italian, the two most important tourist languages in our village. Unfortunately as with most technological things in this part of the world the other language links aren’t working yet.
The official site for Bayerisch Gmain is www.bayerischgmain.de/. Personally the Grossgmain site is better but it is still worth seeing what the smaller half is doing. At least their site is easier to find on Google. Bayerisch Gmain is about 2 km from our house.
We now do have a trans-border regional train line that connects our village to Salzburg and Upper Austria. www.rsb-salzburg.at/.
